Al-Mizan Charitable Trust (AMCT) is the UK’s first Muslim grant-funder which offers direct financial support to individuals and families undergoing economic hardship, regardless of their faith, culture or background.
Our central aim is to promote social justice by supporting the most disadvantaged in communities across the UK through a fair and accountable system of grant giving.
Whilst the UK’s welfare and benefits system sustains those living at the margins of society, our grants empower individuals and families to break through the multiple barriers which perpetuate the cycle of poverty. Aside from food and shelter, we believe that people need to access the skills and opportunities which allow them to maintain a dignified existence above the poverty line and positively engage in the community.
As a grant-funder, we are particularly interested in supporting those who are affected by illness and disability or have suffered bereavement, domestic violence or abuse. The financial assistance we provide covers subsistence, specialist medical treatment and essential social services, as well as access to vocational skills, personal development and employment.
The Trust is a member of the Association of Charity Officers and the Association of Charitable Foundations. We adhere to all recognised models of good practice and quality standard, which is essential to ensure accountability when managing and distributing funds to the general public.
Central to our ethos is that no donation is used to cover any administrative cost. We fund our organisational infrastructure through tax relief and the Trust’s trading subsidiary, Al-Mizan Enterprises, which delivers HR services, consultancy and a corporate training programme.
Over the next five years, we aim to sustain the Trust’s core funding stream by developing a permanent endowment so that we can continue to provide and equitable and transparent fund for continued investment in local communities across the UK.
