Al-Mizan Charitable Trust is a Muslim grant-funder which supports disadvantaged people and deprived communities across the UK, regardless of their faith or cultural background.

Ramadan Appeal: Will You Help?

With humanitarian disasters affecting so many during the Muslim month of Ramadan, it's easy to forget those who are suffering on our very own doorstep. This Ramadan we are appealing to well-wishers to support one of five applications to the Trust, which have been approved for funding, but will have to be rejected, because we've exceeded our monthly grant budget.

Soraya has worked all her life on minimum wage. Although she lives on the bare essentials, she hasn't been able to pay the higher rates of rent imposed upon her by the local authority. She has been served an eviction order for 31 August 2011, possibly the day after Eid. After Ramadan she will be homeless.

Jonathan is due to be released from prison in September, but without his gas installation certificate, he can't work. And he's determined to keep away from crime.

Sandra is not only grieving her husband who passed away in a car accident last month, but worrying about how she will give her 3 children a good start in life. She wants to start an accounting course, so that she can work from home part-time as a book-keeper.

Margaret has just been moved to a new flat by the council. But its damp, and unfurnished. There's no toilet seat. She desperately needs to buy a bed, so that she can rest her back, following a back injury.

And finally... little Ahmed who has a learning disability will be needing extra help from September. His school has recommended that he acquire a literacy programme, but his parents can't afford it.

So many stories of need and disadvantage on our doorstep. As we think about those who need our help across the world, let's not forget those who need our support here in the UK. To sponsor any of these case-studies, please make a donation by clicking here.
